What is The Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET)?

WSET Organises Courses for the Wine & Spirit Industry

Most of these courses are run by independent but approved providers. They range from those aimed at people launching a career in the industry up to people in senior roles.

Exams & Qualifications.

Successful candidates achieve qualifications from WSET which are taken and recognised all over the world.

Founded in 1969, WSET is sponsored by some of the biggest names in the industry.

The Major Wine Related Qualifications.

The WSET Level 1 Award in Wines

Aimed at new employees in the industry, this award gives a basic introduction. It is a good formal foundation and is often taken by interested members of the public too.

The WSET Level 2 Award in Wines and Spirits.

Provides a good grounding in wine styles and production, Spirits and liqueurs are covered too. Ideal for those who need the skills to deal with customers in hospitality, plus retail and wholesale sales.

The WSET Level 3 Award in Wines and Spirits.

After undertaking level 2, this more demanding qualification is for those who need to supervise other employees. The wide range and depth of study will give candidates authority and confidence to undertake a wide range of roles.

The WSET Level 4 Diploma in Wines and Spirits.

A managerial level qualification and the WSET flagship one. Widely regarded as the essential step before Master of Wine. The course is run directly by WSET in The UK, and lasts two years. Our John Callow is one of only around 9000 graduates in the world.
