This course is great if you’re new to wine: whether for your career or just interested. You’ll learn about grape varieties, about how region and climate affects wine, how to pair food and wine and also how to taste wine.
You can take this course in the following ways:
You don’t need any prior knowledge of wine (you do need to be over 18 as there’s wine-tasting involved) and we provide you with extra support in the form of our exclusive study guides. These are free to Northern Wine School students and have been developed to really help you with your studies.
The classroom course ends in a paper based exam in Manchester or Liverpool. If studying the online or self-study options, the exam takes place online. It is a 30 question multiple-choice exam and you must score 70% or above to pass. Those who pass will get a certificate and lapel pin. Oh, by the way: we have a 100% pass rate! For more details about the online exam, please click here.
“I attended the level 1 course in Manchester. The day was a combination of theory and some practical. I learnt about food and wine pairings which was very useful. John made the day interesting and fun.”
Completed Level1 in wines here, excellent, fun and educational, would recommend highly.
Nice course in the center of Manchester in a friendly environment
Great day in a nice small group learning for WSET Wines Level 1; highly recommended.
We are a Wine Scholar Guild approved instructor
This is a really fun day-long course in central Manchester or Liverpool and is run by a WSET Certified Wine Educator (with a 100% pass rate). You will be given the WSET Level 1 Study Book containing everything you need to know and we supply the wines that you will be tasting. We also supply food to taste for the wine pairing activity.
You’ll take the paper based exam at the end of the day. And don’t forget: you have free access to our WSET Wines 1 study guides so you can learn and practice before the day.
This is a four-week course with multiple start dates and is taught via the WSET Digital Classroom. It’s the same syllabus as the classroom course and you are given weekly activities, but you can study at your own pace. We will provide you with a list of wines to source for the tastings.
You can download your study pack and we provide support via email and Skype (should you wish). The course materials are available for a year after the course has ended.
You also have free access to our WSET Wines 1 study guides so you can supplement your learning and practice questions before the exam. The exam will take place online and we will register you for a date that suits you.
Due to the current global health pandemic WSET has introduced computer-based testing via remote invigilation (also known as remote proctoring or online exam) to enable you to sit your exam.
In order to protect the integrity of these exams, WSET has set up procedures to enable the exam to be taken online – please read our Candidate Information document or get in touch with any questions you have.
