This advanced Spanish wine course is the most comprehensive certification course on Spanish wines and is endorsed by the Spanish Trade and Investment government agency. Those who pass can use the letters FWS after their name – great for your career or just to prove that you can!

It’s a rigorous and specialist course that goes into great depth about all Spanish wine appellations how their identities are shaped. It lasts for five weeks and is made up of day release sessions on five consecutive weeks. There is a one-hour exam at the end consisting of 100 multiple choice questions. To pass, you need to get 75% or more.

We are licensed by the Wine Scholar Guild to provide this course using their materials.

How does it work?

We run the course over five weeks. You will be provided with a gorgeous 270 page full-colour study manual as well as one year’s access to the Wine Scholar Guild’s online e-learning resources. This contains quizzes, tests, games to help you learn.

On successful completion of the exam, you will recieve a certificate, pin badge and right to use the SWS post-nominals.

What's included?

There is, of course, lots of wine tasting – in fact you will taste over 40 wines including some rare and unusual ones. We cover the following regions in the course:

Week 1 – Green Spain (Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria, País Vasco) & Duero River Valley (Castilla y León)

Week 2 – La Rioja, Ebro River Valley (Navarra, Aragón) & Cataluña 

Week 3 – Central Mediterranean Coast (Valencia, Murcia) & Meseta (Castilla-La Mancha, Madrid, Extremadura)

Week 4 – Andalucia & the Islands (Balearic/Canary Islands)

Week 5 – 1 hour Exam–100 question multiple choice paper. ​
