This course is for those working in the industry or for people who just love spirits – it’s an intermediate level course where you will develop your knowledge. The course covers raw ingredients and production methods in the key spirits as well as how to use spirits in cocktails. You’ll also learn how to describe the taste of spirits.
You can take this course in the following ways:
You will get to know a range of spirit types including fruit spirits (Cognacs, for example), whiskey/whisky, rum, tequila, mezcal, vodka, gin, vermouth and liqueurs.
You need to be over 18 (you’ll be tasting around 30 samples) and we provide you with extra support in the form of our exclusive study guides. These are free to Northern Wine School students and have been developed to really help you with your studies.
The course ends in an exam which is usually taken in person. If you’re studying at home or online, this is in Manchester. However, due to COVID-19, WSET has made it possible to take this exam online. It is a 50 question multiple-choice exam which lasts for one hour. You must score 55% or above to pass. Those who pass will get a certificate and lapel pin and the right to use the associated WSET Certified logo. Oh, by the way: we have a 100% pass rate! Our WSET Spirits Level 2 classroom courses take place over three consecutive weeks – one full day each week. They are run by a WSET Certified Wine Educator (with a 100% pass rate). You will be given the WSET Spirits 2 Study Guide and SAT tasting card. We supply the spirits that you will be tasting (there are around 30).
You’ll take the exam at the end of the final session. And don’t forget: you have free access to our WSET Spirits 2 study guides so you can consolidate your learning and practice before the day.
This course requires you to attend three full days of classroom lessons.
This is a five-week course with a choice of start dates and is taught via the WSET Digital Classroom. It’s the same syllabus as the classroom course and you are given weekly activities, but you can study at your own pace. We will provide you with a list of spirits to source for the tastings.
You will be sent the WSET Spirits 2 Study Guide and SAT tasting card. We provide support via email and Skype (should you wish). The course materials are available for a year after the course has ended.
You also have free access to our WSET Spirits 2 study guides so you can consolidate your learning and practice before the day. The exam will take place in central Manchester or online and we will register you for a date that suits you.
